Why anti-imperialism must inform any eco-socialist project in Britain

Originally submitted to The World Transformed 2025 on 5 September 2025.

We at Energy Embargo for Palestine have followed the debates and TWT proposals around the necessity of an eco-socialist project and a Left-Green alliance in Britain. As an organisation established by activists and organisers involved in the climate and Palestine movements, we would like to reinforce how anti-imperialist analysis and organisation must inform an understanding of eco-socialism in Britain and the global North. Our answers to the three questions posed by TWT are below.

Our submission discusses the following:

  1. Our current conjuncture: challenges facing the Left

  2. The Palestinian struggle as a compass for anti-imperialism within the British metropole

  3. Lessons to learn from Colombia and the fight for an energy embargo

  4. Public ownership in ecological and anti-imperialist strategy

  5. Vanguardism in the New Left Party
